慈悲偉大的佛陀
Oh great, compassionate Buddha,

我們今天聚集在您的座下
Today we gather in front of you
In mourning,

飛機遇難實可悲哀
TransAsia airways flight GE235 incident
Is a horrific tragedy.

我們今天不但為亡者祈願
Today we pray not only

求生佛國淨土
That the deceased be born
Into the Pureland,

也為生者祝禱
But also that the surviving family members

希望他們節哀順變
Restrain their grief
And accept this change.

因為他們彼此之間
There must be a great deal
Of wistful longing

會有許多牽掛與不捨
And emotional attachment
Between them;

因為他們對於未來
There must be a lot
Of hesitancy and dependence

會有許多猶豫與依賴
About the future;

這些都要祈求
Thus we pray to you, Buddha,

佛陀您以慈悲神力
With your great, compassionate power,

化解他們難以消除的情執
To bring reconciliation
To their emotional attachment

給予他們解脫自在的加被
And to give them the support
To be liberated and at ease.

慈悲偉大的佛陀
Oh great, compassionate Buddha,

您曾開示我們
You once taught us that,

生者皆有死
All things born must have a death,

合會有別離
All unions met must have a parting!”

萬般帶不去
And that,
whatever we acquire we cannot take with us,

只有業隨身
Only our karma never leaves us!”

生者應該了知
The surviving family members must realize

生命的來去如同薪盡火傳
That the coming and going of life
Is passing

生命的火苗永不停息
In endless succession,
That the flame of life will never cease,

生死的轉變如同搬家喬遷
And that the change from life to death is like
Changing residence

生命的主人仍是一樣
And that the owner of the life
Is still the same.

生既未曾生　何足以慶喜
If in birth life has not yet been born,
What is there to celebrate and rejoice?

死亦未嘗死　何足以悲傷
If in death, life has not yet departed,
What is there to be sad and anguished about?

最重要的是
What is most important is:

我們要發揮光熱
That we bring the light of virtue

照耀世間
To illuminate the world;

我們要盡己所能
That we do our best

庇蔭眾生
To shelter all beings.

慈悲偉大的佛陀
Oh great, compassionate Buddha,

祈求您的加被
We pray for your support and protection:

用慈悲的和風吹乾眷屬的淚水
Please whisk away the tears of the family
With your gentle-breeze-like compassion;

用智慧的煦日照見生命的真義
Please illuminate the true meaning of life
With your warm-sun-like wisdom.

慈悲偉大的佛陀
Oh great, compassionate Buddha,

懇切地祈求您
I sincerely pray to you,

為飛機遇難的這許多可憐人士們
May all the victims of
TransAsia airways flight GE235,

祈求佛祖把他們的真魂引到淨土極樂世界
Reach the Pure Land World of the Ultimate Bliss.
